Conflict Transformation and Cultural Heritage Use in Cyprus

Cultural heritage use is often a point of friction between antagonistic groups in intrastate conflict. In other instances, may facilitate intergroup contact and provide space for conflict transformation. The Cyprus issue not an exception to this phenomenon. Although one the most researched frozen cases, cultural vis-à-vis transformation relatively understudied focusing primarily on tangible protection, restoration museology. This brief examines degree influence (be it positive or negative) activity two Cypriot communities. specific, bicommunal projects, in-group out-group and, visits own sites side divide. Results show that projects foster cooperation, becomes ground antagonism over neglect care sites, provoke questions reuse neglected other. total, demonstrates issues are exploited order back ethnocentric positions. Both sides own, neglected, damaged lost support arguments superiority. Contrarily, communities do consider differences deterring factor dynamic potentials can be utilised towards through activities, ventures attributing local ownership joint management, critical notions favour intangibility hybridity.
